Big Lake
The first Borderland Collective project, these photographs were made in 2007 by youth living in Big Lake, Texas. Historically a small oil and ranching town in West Texas, the community is constantly feeling the pressures of a boom/bust cycle. Extending from a conversation about bringing together the fields of art and social studies education in a meaningful way, we worked with these twelve high schoolers, inviting them to explore their role in constructing the cultural and historical narratives of their town.
