2019-Ongoing
Our current and ongoing project is a collaboration between undergraduate students in the College Assistant Migrant Program (CAMP) at the University of Washington and Borderland Collective. The resulting photographs, documents, and objects exploring migrant farm worker family life in Washington will be exhibited alongside items from the permanent collection of the Washington State History Museum.
Blackwell School
2019-20
This project activates the image and oral history archives of the Blackwell School across thirteen public locations in Marfa, Texas. The Blackwell School served as the segregated elementary school for the Hispanic population of Marfa from the 1890s until 1965.
One to Another
2018
One to Another activated Artpace’s Hudson Showroom and Main Space galleries in Fall 2018, turning them into spaces of listening, critical inquiry, and participation. The exhibition invites viewers to contemplate their own familial migration stories within the context of larger migration narratives.
La
Esperanza de Ser Yo
2018
This project represents a weeklong workshop with five high school and middle school students who are part of the Migrant Education Program in West Texas. They used photography, drawing, oral histories, zine-making, and mapping projects to collectively explore and share their family histories, daily lives, and dreams for the future.
Oil-land
2017-18
Guided by a critical pedagogy that interweaves inquiry, dialogue, action, and reflection, Borderland Collective collaborated with forty high school students in San Antonio, Texas on a year-long art and research project. Together, we unpacked and reflected upon historical and contemporary issues surrounding energy production, usage, and impact.
